How to Make Arm Puffs
What you will need: 1 Tulle Square, Ruler, Scissors, Tailors Chalk or Disappearing Pen for marking, 4 pieces of 1/4" elastic 18" long, a Loop Turner or Safety Pin for feeding elastic thru puff.
Place Tulle Square with folded edge towards you and fold over from left to right. Draw a straight line up from pre-folded edge 18" then a 2nd line 6" deep.
Pin tulle in place and cut out. You now have 2 double layer arm puffs folded in half.
Unfold arm puff and starting at one end fold the double layer of tulle edge over 1/2" and sew - make sure to backstich at beginning and end. Repeat on the other side and then the same for the second puff.
Pro Tip: If using a light color of tulle place a peice of dark colored tape on machine underneath to see the fold better.
If using a loop turner push hook thru folded edge and pull elastic thru. If using a safety pin feed elastic thru. Repeat for all sides. Fold puff closed and stitch making sure not to stitch casing w/elastic.
Pull elastics until desired width for dancer and then stitch or knot elastic closed.
How to Make Arm Ruffs
What you will need: 1 Tulle Square, Ruler, Scissors, Tailors Chalk or Disappearing Pen for marking, 2 pieces of 1/4" Elastic 18" long, a Loop Turner or Safety Pin for feeding elastic thru ruff.
Place Tulle square with pre-folded edge towards you and fold over from left to right. Place ruler at left corner and draw a 1/4 circle 10" deep.
Draw a second line 5.5" deep. Pin tulle in place and cut out. You now have 2 double layer circular arm ruffs folded in half.
Unfold tulle on arm ruff and starting at one end fold the double layer of tulle edge over approx 1/2" and sew - make sure to backstitch at beginning and end. Repeat for 2nd arm ruff.
Pro Tip: If using a light color of tulle lay a peice of dark colored tape on sewing machine underneath to see the fold better.
